JIM NEWPORT BIOGRAPHY
James (Jim) Newport is a Writer and Emmy-nominated Production Designer of both film and television. He divides his time between Thailand and Los Angeles.
His first novel “THE VAMPIRE OF SIAM” was published in 2004 by Asia Books. His second novel “RAMONNE” has just been published by Willat Publishing (distributed by Asia Books.) It is a sequel to the first book and continues the bizarre relationship between Martin Larue, jaded ex-pat residing in Bangkok and Ramonne Delacroix, 175 year-old French vampire. Reborn, evolved, and enlightened – Martin and Ramonne’s destinies seem inextricably entwined.
Newport’s film credits include “BROKEDOWN PALACE,” “THE STEPFATHER” and “HEART LIKE A WHEEL.” In television he has set the “look” for many series by designing the pilot episodes of “THE LYON’S DEN,” “THE SHIELD, ” “THE EDUCATION OF MAX BICKFORD” and “CHINA BEACH.” His work on “THE PIANO LESSON” for the Hallmark Hall Of Fame was nominated for an Emmy in Art Direction.
In July of 2002 Richard Lair invited him to the Elephant Conservation center in Lampang, Thailand to be an “Artist In Residence” for a day of painting with elephants. That experience gave birth to the first Thai Elephant Painting Calendar, which is a collaboration between Jim and his old friend Patrick “Shrimp” Gauvain. The 2005 calendar is published by Pomegranate Press.
